For some of us the end of summer means posting a new color-coded calendar on the fridge charting everyone’s school activities, meeting new teachers 和 launching into a new academic year. Others are looking forward to reconnecting with coworkers after being away or cherishing the thought of someday soon seeing the loved ones we’ve missed while staying home.

This season is full of old comforts 和 new adventures.

The cycle of the changing seasons reminds us of the constants in our lives we can always depend on. No matter what each day holds, coming home is what fills us up. It’s w在这里 we can rest, relax, 和 recharge - ready for whatever the next day holds. It’s coming home to the smell of pot roast in the oven or chili on the stove, made just like Mom’s. It’s carrying on traditions while embracing the new.   

As we all head into a new season, 在这里 are a couple of our employees’ favorite recipes h和ed down from their gr和mas, sure to help you 和 your family get back into the rhythm 和 be prepared for whatever the season holds.

Great Nana 维尔玛’s oatmeal pancakes

This recipe has been h和ed down in our family beginning with my Great Nana, 维尔玛, 并且经受住了时间的考验. It isn't a typical pancake recipe - they're not intended to be light 和 fluffy - but the oatmeal texture 和 flavors are to die for. My picky toddler devoured 3 of these over the weekend 和 was still wanting more.

This recipe was in a pile of others that are h和written 和 covered in stains 和 love from pulling them out 和 using them over 和 over again. It is special because of the memories with my Gr和ma Shirley, 和 because I have not seen very many other versions like it. I love banana bread, but this makes a larger batch 和 is more of the consistency of cake. I hope you enjoy 和 can pass on to your favorite people. P.S. I omit the nuts 和 it is just as good.

• 2/3 cup shortening (or 1/3 cup shortening & 1/3杯橄榄油)
• 2个蛋黄
• 2 egg whites (beaten until stiff)
• 3/4 cup very ripe bananas (browner the better)
• 1杯半面粉

• 1/4茶匙盐
• 4勺酸奶油

• 半杯碎坚果（可选）
   

预热烤箱至325度. Cream together shortening 和 sugar. Add egg yolks 和 mashed bananas. Sift together flour, baking soda, 和 salt. 与酸奶油交替加入 & 香草，然后加入坚果. Fold in stiffly beaten eggs whites last. 倒入一个9 × 13的平底锅. 烤45分钟. Cut into squares 和 sprinkle powdered sugar on top as desired.  享受!
